The 4Th was a wet cloudy weekend. We have had so much rain the last couple of weeks our golf cart cover has been on more than off. The campground had just started to dry up from the last rain and we get another 1 1/2 inches Sunday morning. There are several small ponds. One of them fills up then runs across the road into another site then through the trees into another site, then if it rains enough the water will run across the road into another site. The worst site is site 3 and we ask the campers if they enjoy their water front campsite. The only good thing with the rain, was that a lot of campers left a day early.
The lower Ledges is flooded and will be closed the rest of the summer. The water level is about 1 foot less than 2008 when it was around 26 feet. The park manager takes his canoe to the lower Ledges to check things out. He can go all the way to the 3rd crossing before he has to turn around. Once the water level goes down, then comes the clean up. What a mess.
There are a lot of people sitting on the road and fishing. There are a few taking boats or canoes and fishing from them. Now one of the questions we get asked is "when will canyon road and the lower Ledges be open". Like we know when. People think when the water goes down the lower Ledges should be open. They don't think about the clean up.
