We are just finishing up Week #1 of 3 very very busy weeks. Vern and I always look forward to Sunday afternoons and Monday. On Sunday the campers leave the campground and Monday there may be 2 or 3 campers in the campground. Not this last week! There are 20 non-reservable electric sites (2 for the campground hosts) and 16 of them had campers on them on Monday and there were 4 campers in non-electric. The other electric sites were taken on Tuesday. All because of the Farm Progress Show. The good thing was that the campers were gone during the day and quiet in the evening. We had campers from Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri. There may have been other states that I missed. Don't get me wrong this is great for the Park, but we never had a break from the busy weekend.
As soon as a Farm Progress Show camper left a camper for the Labor Day weekend or Super National races would have it taken. It's like the vultures are circling looking for a site.
Now we're in the Labor Day weekend. So far so good. The electric sites are full and most of the non-electric sites are taken. There are a few travel trailers and pop-ups on non-electric sites. They will be watching for electric sites to open up, so they can move.
There is one classic camper on a non-electric site. It is one of a kind. The guy strung a rope between two trees and threw a big canvas over it to form a sort of Tee-Pee. Then he set a recliner under the canvas. That's all he has. It might have been a little chilly for him last night, because it got down to 48*. A true camper!
Monday is the busiest day of the year at the campground. More on that later.
Week one down, 2 to go.
